Inspirational story of Guru and disciple

It occurred a long time ago. Many disciples used to study in a famous Gurukul. The gurus of that Gurukul were very knowledgeable, calm nature and disciplinary. Students from far and wide used to come to him to take education.

One day a new disciple came to Gurukul. He was very intelligent, but he also had ego. He used to think that he knew more than all other disciples. He used to question the Guru’s words many times.

One day the Guru called all the disciples to take a small examination. He gave everyone a lamp of clay and said, “Light these lamps and keep in this forest and keep it in a place where no one can see it. But the condition is that the lamp should not be extinguished.”

All the disciples took lamp and walked towards the forest and hid the lamp according to their own. But the arrogant disciple wandered around with a lamp for a long time and returned empty handed.

The Guru asked him, “Why couldn’t you keep the lamp?”

The disciple said, “Gurudev, wherever I went to keep the lamp, the light would spread and I was afraid that no one would see. The lamp kept on burning and no one saw – this was not possible.”

The Guru smiled and said, “That’s all I wanted to explain to you. Truth and knowledge also have the same nature-when it is, his light spreads automatically. It cannot be hidden.”

Then the Guru said, “Knowledge comes not only by reading and speaking, but comes from humility, discipline and experience. When you leave the ego with knowledge, only then you will be able to become a true disciple.”

Hearing this, the disciple realized his mistake. He bent at the feet of the Guru and apologized and resolved to learn with loyalty.

Policy learning (Moral): Knowledge is used correctly only when there is humility with him. A person who is really knowledgeable does not show down others, but has a feeling of learning with everyone.
