At that time, only 200 units of this first computer of Apple were made. Most of those 200 computers are now either destroyed or lost. This is the reason that whatever units of Apple-1 computer are left in the world now, they are extremely rare and valuable. Dana Redington had Apple-1
The story of this special Apple-1 computer is even more interesting. This computer was owned by Dana Redington, who was the first application engineer of Apple Company. This computer was given to her by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1978. Recently this computer was auctioned, in which it was bid for more than 3 lakh dollars and finally it was sold for $3,15,914 (about ₹2.5 crores).
Features of this computer
This Apple-1 computer was presented in fully working condition. It included all the necessary components and accessories needed to operate it. In addition, the board of this computer was ‘undiscovered’, meaning it had never been presented to the Apple collecting community before. It is now recorded as #104 in the Apple-1 registry.
Auction of other rare items
This auction included not just Apple-1 but many other rare things as well. These included the Apple Lisa-1 computer, a cheque signed by Steve Jobs, and three Polaroid photographs of the Apple-1 prototype. All these things were sold in the auction for a total of $983,096 i.e. more than Rs 8.25 crore.
