Something similar has happened with the government telecom company BSNL. Where the data of millions of consumers has reached the hackers, and the shocking thing is that the company came to know about such a big cyber attack later.
User data is being sold on the dark web
According to cyber security experts, this sensitive telecom data is being sold on the dark web for 5 thousand dollars. After this cyber attack on Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), concerns are being raised about national security. Not only this, how sensitive BSNL was regarding these cyber attacks has also come to light. According to the information, hackers had access to BSNL’s system for a long time, due to which sensitive telecom data has been stolen on such a large scale.
What data was stolen
According to the information, hackers have stolen 140 GB of data from BSNL’s system. The stolen data includes IMSI and SIM details, HLR data, DP card data, DP Security Key Data, master keys and Solaris server snapshots. Apart from this, OTPs, two-factor authentication data are also included, with the help of which hackers can gain access to people’s bank accounts.
Data has been stolen from BSNL earlier also
For information, let us tell you that in December 2023 also a similar case of data theft from BSNL’s system came to light. But this time sensitive telecom data and more detailed information and datasets of users have been stolen. Which can be used for wrongdoings. At the same time, seeing the seriousness of the matter, the Ministry of Telecommunications has sought a report from BSNL regarding this entire data theft. Apart from this, orders have also been given for forensic investigation of the matter.
