TRAI New SIM Rule: The demand for smartphones in the country has increased rapidly. In such a situation, most people keep more than one SIM card. But after July 2024, recharging both SIMs has become expensive. Keeping this in mind, now TRAI has introduced a new rule which has brought great relief to Jio, Airtel and Vi users. Let us know about the new rule in detail.
Get rid of expensive recharge
For your information, let us tell you that earlier one had to recharge to use the secondary SIM. Also, people used to recharge in other SIM due to fear of number being switched off. But now TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) will get relief for the users of Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL under the new rules.
What is the new rule of TRAI?
According to TRAI’s Consumer Handbook, your SIM remains active for 90 days after the recharge is completed. This means that even after the recharge is over, your number will remain active for three months.
120 days validity for Rs 20
According to TRAI, if there is no recharge on your number for 90 days and there is a prepaid balance of Rs 20 left in it, then the company will deduct those Rs 20 and give additional validity of 30 days. In this way your number can remain active for a total of 120 days.
Not only this, even after completion of 120 days, TRAI gives you 15 days time to reactivate your SIM. If the SIM is not activated even within these 15 days, the number will be locked forever and will be allotted to some other person. With this rule, secondary SIM users will get relief from expensive recharge and it will become easier to keep the number active as per the need.
