Does Uber charge different fares depending on the phone? Government sent notice, company said this

For some time now, Ola and Uber have been accused of charging different fares from users depending on the phone. Many people on social media had claimed that when they book a cab through iPhone, it shows higher fare compared to Android. The government had sent a notice to these companies regarding this. Now Uber’s reply has come in this matter. Let us know what the whole matter is and what response Uber has given.

The government had sent a notice

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi posted on Twitter that a notice has been issued to Ola and Uber regarding charging different fares based on different models of mobile phones and their reply has been sought. Last month too, Joshi had termed charging different fares as unfair and said that it is a disregard for consumer rights. In fact, while sharing their experiences on social media, many people had said that Uber charges them different amounts for the same ride on iPhone and Android. A user had written that the pickup point, destination and time are the same, but two types of fares are visible on two different phones.

Uber denied the allegations

After receiving the notice, Uber has denied these allegations. A company spokesperson said that the fare is not set based on the company’s phone number of the rider. He said that the company will work with the government to try to remove this misunderstanding. Let us tell you that the company has written on its website that it determines the fare based on the estimated distance and trip time. These estimates are subject to change due to factors such as demand patterns and traffic.
