How did the incident happen?
The police of Jorhat district of Assam were conducting a raid to arrest an accused. There were a total of 16 policemen in this team, out of which only 3 were in uniform, while the rest were wearing civil dress. At night the police was walking on the route shown on Google Maps. While moving, he crossed the border of Assam and entered the border of Nagaland. Google Maps was showing a tea garden located here on the border of Assam, whereas it was in Nagaland.
Local people thought he was a scoundrel
The police team also had many modern weapons. When he reached Nagaland in the dark of night, the people there became suspicious. Seeing the weapons, they considered the policemen to be scoundrels and took them hostage. The policemen kept trying to avoid them. Meanwhile, a policeman was also injured in the attack by the local people. After this he kept the team hostage throughout the night.
Released upon arrival of local officials
Finding themselves in trouble, the policemen contacted the local police authorities of Nagaland. He gave complete information to the officials about what happened to him. After this the local authorities sent another police team to the spot. It was only when the local police came to the spot and explained it to the people that they released the Assam Police team. After this the injured policeman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
