Share has been less than 90 percent for three months
For the last three months, Google’s share in search has been less than 90 percent. This is the first time since 2015 that this figure has remained below 90 percent for three consecutive months. According to media reports, Google’s market share was 89.34 percent in October last year, 89.99 percent in November and 89.73 percent in December. Earlier this had happened in 2015, when Google’s market share in search was less than 90 percent for three consecutive months.
Competition is continuously increasing
Apart from other reasons, increasing competition in search has also been the reason for decreasing market share of Google Search. Now many people are going to chatbots like ChatGPT for their queries instead of Google search. In the recent past, the traffic of ChatGPT has been more than that of Google. Many analysts say that its popularity is increasing rapidly, which may be a matter of concern for Google.
Google is also aware of this competition and is continuously adding new features. Recently there was news that Google may soon introduce AI mode in its search engine. As soon as users tap on it to search something, it will take them to a new interface like Google Gemini AI.
