Government’s campaign to stop cyber fraud intensified, 6.69 lakh SIM cards blocked again in the country

The government on Wednesday said it has ‘blocked’ 6.69 lakh SIM cards and 1,32,000 IMEI numbers till November 15, 2024, in an effort to control cyber crimes. Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur gave this information in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

He said that such efforts are being made as part of a comprehensive strategy to deal with cyber crimes along with upgrading the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and judicial officers.

Resolved 9.94 lakh complaints- Government

The National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal has helped save over Rs 3,431 crore through resolution of 9.94 lakh complaints, the Central government told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The ‘Citizen Financial Cyber ​​Fraud Reporting and Management System’ automatically sends cyber crime incidents to relevant state-level law enforcement agencies for further action. The objective of the ‘cybercrime.gov.in’ portal is to enable immediate reporting of financial frauds and prevent misappropriation of funds by fraudsters. Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs B L Verma, in a written reply to a question, highlighted the effectiveness of the portal in combating financial cyber crimes.

The Home Ministry has issued an advisory to all states and union territories to publicize the portal and its toll-free helpline number 1930.

Cyber ​​crimes are continuously increasing in the country
