For the last few days, there is a lot of discussion about an order of telecom regulator TRAI regarding SIM card validity. Actually, it was said in many reports that after the new order of TRAI, the SIM card will remain active for 90 days even without recharging. Now these claims have been denied by the telecom regulator. TRAI has termed these claims as misleading and said that no new rules have been issued in this regard. Let us know the whole matter.
The rule is 11 years old – TRAI
TRAI has said that it has not issued any new rules regarding SIM card validity and the existing rules have been in place for 11 years. Under these rules, if any amount is present in the account of a prepaid customer, then his connection cannot be deactivated after 90 days if it is not used.
TRAI will review the new recharge plans of companies
TRAI in its statement has also said to review the recharge plans recently launched by telecom companies. Actually, the regulator had ordered these companies to launch only calling and SMS plans. This order was given to provide relief to 2G users and customers who do not use data on the number. This will affect about 15 crore customers.
Companies have eliminated data from the existing plan itself.
Following the order of TRAI, private telecom companies have introduced some recharge plans. However, instead of increasing the price of recharge plans, these companies have changed the same plan into a voice-only plan by eliminating other benefits from the existing plan. In view of this, TRAI has said that it will review them on the basis of rules.
