If you receive missed calls from these numbers, do not call back even by mistake, your money will be wasted, Jio cautions

Nowadays people are being cheated through different types of scams. Every day a large number of people become victims of cyber frauds and have to lose their hard-earned money. Now Reliance Jio has warned its customers about a new kind of fraud. Jio has issued an advisory saying that due to this scam, users receive missed calls from international numbers. If someone calls back on these, one has to pay expensive rates.

Being cheated by Premium Rate Service Scam

Reliance Jio has sent an email asking its customers to be aware of this. It is written in the email that never call back on missed calls from unknown international numbers. This premium rate service charges a lot of money per minute. There can be a lot of charges even for a short period of time.

This is how this scam works

In this scam, scammers first give missed calls from international numbers. When someone calls them back, they connect him to the premium service. Due to this, the person making the call sometimes has to pay a charge of Rs 100 per minute. In this, scammers make missed calls from the same number again and again. Such missed calls often come late at night or early in the morning. Therefore, be alert and do not call back on missed calls from unknown international numbers.

How to protect yourself from such scams?

  • If you are receiving repeated missed calls from suspicious numbers, then block that number.
  • Do not call back on missed calls from any unknown international number. If +91 is not prefixed to any number then it is an international number.
  • Report suspicious numbers to local authorities immediately. Avoid such scams yourself and ask those around you, especially children and the elderly, to beware of them.
