Impact of Pakistan’s poor condition, phone imports from abroad reduced, purchase of other telecom goods also reduced.

The poor economic condition of Pakistan is affecting the lives of the people there. The direct result of this is visible on the import of mobile phones. According to the latest information, phone imports have declined by more than 7 percent in the first 5 months of the current financial year (July-November 2024). From July to November, Pakistan has imported phones worth $570 million, whereas in the same period last year it had imported phones worth $616 million from abroad.

Further decline on monthly basis

If seen on monthly basis, imports have further reduced in November. In October, phones worth $174 million had arrived in Pakistan from abroad, whereas in November, phones worth only about $150 million were imported, a decline of 14 percent. However, imports have increased by about 2 percent in November on an annual basis.

Reduction in import of telecom goods also

Not only phone imports have decreased in Pakistan but every type of import related to telecom has also decreased. Last year in November, Pakistan had ordered telecom related goods worth 235 million dollars, whereas in November this year it could order only 184 million dollars worth of goods.

Manufacturing increased at local level

Local manufacturing has brought a sigh of relief to Pakistan. An increase in local manufacturing is being seen in the last few months. If we talk about the first 9 months of this year (January to September), Pakistan’s manufacturing and assembling plants have produced 2.25 crore handsets. More than 21 lakh mobile phones were produced in September alone. Out of 2.25 crore mobiles, about 88 lakh were 2G phones and about 1.4 crore were smartphones.
