Telecom regulator TRAI had issued an order last month ordering telecom companies to launch voice-only plans. Now TRAI has issued new guidelines. According to this, Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vodafone Idea will have to launch a top-up voucher of Rs 10. Also, the already set benchmark of Rs 10 has been removed for them. These will be the new rules related to recharge plan

TRAI has removed the requirement of denomination of Rs 10 denomination. Now telecom companies can issue top-up vouchers of any value as per their wish. Along with this, the color coding system for physical recharge has been abolished. Actually, nowadays most of the people have started recharging online. In such a situation, the popularity of physical recharge is decreasing.

Validity of STV extended

TRAI has increased the validity of Special Tariff Voucher (STV) from 90 days to one year. This means that telecom companies can now issue STV with validity up to 365 days. All these decisions will benefit about 15 crore users using 2G network in the country. Apart from this, it is going to be beneficial for many customers using dual SIM.

When will the voice-only plan order come into effect?

The telecom regulator had ordered all telecom companies to introduce voice-only recharge plans on December 23, 2024. For this the companies were given one month’s time. In such a situation, it is expected that companies can launch such plans by the end of January. After the launch of this plan, customers who do not use data will not be forced to pay for data.
