Smartphone users will get relief in India! Government’s new initiative to block spam messages

Spam Messages: The Government of India has taken an important step to get mobile users to get rid of fake messages. The Union Home Ministry has directed the major telecom companies such as Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone-Dee and BSNL to implement domestic technical solutions, which can stop fake or spam messages. A trial program will be started under this initiative and its review meeting will be held in February. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also sought its response from telecom companies for this meeting, which will also include Cybercrime Coordination Center and I4C officials.

Indigenous spam blocking solution

Delhi -based government company Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) has prepared a spam blocking solution, which will be able to block fake messages on the telecom network itself. This solution uses a SMS transparency tool to block spam messages. TCIL has proposed to provide this technology to telecom operators without any additional expenses.

How will this solution work?

This new solution is fully designed in India and has used blockchain technology and artificial intelligence (AI). When the spam message comes on the user’s number, its URL is blocked at the network level, and then after verifying it, the correct content is delivered to the user. This technique was earlier launched on MTNL network as a proof-off-concept and is now being applied extensively with telecom operators.

Ban on cyber crimes

Along with this, the Department of Telecommunications and Regulatory officials have instructed the telecom operators to blacklist spam calls and messages at the network level. If this indigenous technology is successful in the trial, then it will help in blocking the fake messages coming on the number of users and can be controlled by cyber crimes. This initiative can prove to be important in giving relief to mobile users from cyber crime and spam in the country.
