Tata Play’s big decision, will remove all Sony channels from the plans of one crore customers, this is the reason

Tata Play Removes Sony Channels: DTH service provider Tata Play has started removing Sony Pictures Network India’s channels from its packs citing low viewership. Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI) has opposed the move and called it an ‘arbitrary’ decision.

Tata Play (formerly Tata Sky) has started removing SPNI channels from its various channel packs. These include removing the less watched channels and adjusting the monthly fee accordingly.

On this development, Tata Play Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Harit Nagpal said that the platform is ‘streamlining the channel packs by removing less watched channels and adjusting the monthly fee accordingly.’ Meanwhile, SPNI, in a statement, termed it a ‘surprising decision’ and said that Tata Play’s narrative of ‘decrease in viewership’ is misleading. SPNI feared that this arbitrary decision has been taken without giving it any information or considering the preferences of their customers.

This is not the first time this has happened

Let us tell you that this is not the first time that Tata Play has removed channels from the plans of its customers to reduce their bills. But this is the first time that a specific broadcaster has been targeted. Earlier in March 2022, Tata Play had downgraded the subscription plans of almost half of its customers. With this move of the company, every customer saved up to Rs 30-100 every month.

The company’s managing director and CEO Harit Nagpal said that considering the facility we provide, we wanted to experiment with shutting down the channel with the least viewership. This will reduce the bills of the customers.
