TikTok service has started again in America. US President-elect Donald Trump said he would evaluate the app’s accessibility after being sworn in on Monday. Why was TikTok banned?
About 17 crore people in America use this app. TikTok is owned by Chinese company ByteDance. The company was accused of sharing the data of American users with the Chinese government and this is a threat to America’s security. In view of this, TikTok was banned. This ban came into effect on January 19, but after a few hours the service of the app started being restored.
TikTok thanked Trump
TikTok thanked Trump in its statement and said that due to Trump’s efforts, it has been able to restart its service in America. Trump’s close aide and American billionaire Elon Musk had also condemned the ban on the app, calling it wrong. Musk said that banning TikTok is against freedom of expression. Along with this, he also condemned China for the ban on X.
What is the way forward?
Trump said that he is extending the time for implementation of this order so that an agreement can be reached for national security. He also told that he wants America to have 50 percent stake in the ownership of this app. For this he has suggested joint venture. It has also assured not to take any action against those companies which had tried to save TikTok from the ban.
