WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has accused a spyware company Paragon solution of Israeli of hacking. WhatsApp said that the company has targeted about 100 journalists and members of civil society with the help of its spyware Graphite. The instant messaging platform has given information about this possible hacking to the target people and are looking for a way for legal action against Paragon.
Spyware is extremely dangerous
Graphite spyware is extremely dangerous. It is installed in the device without knowing Victim and there is no need to click on any link etc. from Victim. This type of technic is called zero-click attack. Once installed, it gives the entire access of the device to the hands of hackers. Then hackers can steal data from the phone on their own free will. It acts like the NSO Group’s Prophet Spyware, which faced many serious allegations.
There was an attack in December
It has not been told by WhatsApp that when the journalists and other victims were on target, but it has been confirmed that this attack took place in December. The company is now strengthening its security to help the affected users as well as to avoid such spyware in future.
Attackers have not been identified
So far, the attackers behind the spyware have not been identified. However, like other spyware companies, Paragon also sells its software governments, but WhatsApp has said that it has not yet been able to find out who are behind these attacks. On the other hand, sources close to Paragon say that the company has about 35 government customers and all these are democratic countries.
