VHP’s international vice president Champat Rai has a big role in the construction of Ram temple. Rameshwar Prasad Bansal, originally a resident of Saraymeer locality of Nagina town in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, and Savitri Devi, a resident of Chandausi, got married. On November 18, 1946, Mother Savitri Devi gave birth to Champat Rai ji, the second of 10 children. His father was also associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his early days.
– In the year 1975, during the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi, a young professor Champat Rai was teaching Physics to children in RSM Degree College, Dhampur, Bijnor. Then the police reached there to arrest him because he was associated with the Sangh. Champat Rai, who was very popular among his students, knew what could happen if he was arrested there. The police also had an idea of how much resistance the students might offer.
Professor Champat Rai told the police officers – You go. I will finish the children’s class and come to the police station. The policemen knew the weight of this person’s words so they returned. After finishing the class, Professor Champat Rai reached home after asking the children to go home peacefully. Touched the feet of his parents, took blessings, and reached the police station for the long journey to jail.
After spending 18 months in various jails of Uttar Pradesh, after spending a very painful life, when he came out, the self-confidence of this determined youth was recognized by the Sangh’s Sarsanghchalak Shri Rajju Bhaiya and the responsibility of preparing Ayodhya for the battle of Shri Ram Mandir was put on his shoulders. .
Champat Rai quit his government job, and Ram got busy in work. He went to every village of Awadh, knocked on every door, and raised such a young army at the local level which was ready to fight every situation. Every street corner of Ayodhya recognized Champat Rai and he also recognized every street corner. He became so knowledgeable about the history, present and geography of Awadh that his colleagues started calling him “Encyclopedia of Ayodhya”.
Even before the demolition of Babri, Champat Rai ji started collecting “documentary evidence” on Ram Temple. Read and save millions of pages of documents. Read and handle each book. His house was filled with these documents. Besides, he also memorized every information. When K. Parasaran ji and other fellow lawyers entered the field to fight the legal battle of Janmabhoomi, he was the person who gave them irrefutable evidence.
On December 6, 1992, big veteran leaders were teaching discipline to kar sevaks from the stage. All instructions were being given. Vows were being given not to harm the Babri structure. At that time Champat Rai ji was with the local youth, some distance away from the stage. A journalist asked Champat Rai, “What will happen now?” He laughed and replied, “This is Ram’s monkey army, they did not come here to do PT on the sound of whistle. Whatever she has come to do, she will do it.” Saying this, he took a shovel in his hand and moved towards the Babri structure. Then only the slogan of Jai Shri Ram was echoed and history was created.
Respected Champat Rai ji has not been made the General Secretary of Ram Mandir Trust just like that. He has dedicated his entire life at the feet of Ramlala. People also fondly call him “Ramlala’s Patwari”. This person is a warrior of Sanatan.
— In the Babri demolition cases, after Kalyan Singh ji, Champat Rai ji has always openly taken the responsibility of that incident in front of both the court and the general public. Champat Rai ji has said that as soon as he sees the peak of Ram temple, he will start motivating the young generation to take up the responsibility of Mathura.
— Champat Rai ji is an ascetic and scholar who takes care of the smallest things of religion. Once he stayed at someone’s place in Kashi for some work. Then when I looked at it at night, I found that the direction of the bed was such that the sleeping legs were pointing towards the south. He could not accept this even for one night. He got the direction of the bed corrected at night only then he slept. The person who travels across India wearing dhoti and kurta, stubbornly follows the small things of Hindu lifestyle in his personal life. It can be understood to what extent he will be thoughtful and militant in the context of Shri Ram Temple.
